Decluttering and Organizing

The advantage in not being too good a housekeeper is
that your guests are so pleased to feel how very much better they are.
- Eleanor Roosevelt

I had several requests for the decluttering and organizing blog posts that D.J. sent me...  and I'm happy to share.

Even though I read the blog posts Wednesday afternoon, there are a number of points that have stuck with me and will be used in my attempt at whipping the house into shape!

  1. It's easier to clean an uncluttered surface (kitchen or bathroom counters, top of dresser, etc.) than a cluttered surface.
  2. A cluttered house didn't happen overnight and decluttering will take longer than just one day.
  3. Decluttering is not just taking stuff out of the house but also giving serious thought to what you bring into it.

My house may never be this decluttered but it is something I can work toward!

  1. Thank you1 Thank you! These are great links...I am going to attempt to absorb them and see if next week will be more productive for me!!

You have provided the "kick in the pants" motivation I needed to get back on track!!

Have a great weekend...and don't forget to sew!!

  2. Love the quote - I guess I make my guests feel wonderful about themselves every time they visit.

  3. Thanks for sharing, the web site is good at making it all so simple. And she doesn't make get it all don at once.

  4. I woke up this morning thinking about 40 days, 40 bags and how I could do this. I will start small------with magazines and work from there, taking one small area at a time. My husband is an saver of everything, so I can't really touch his stuff but I will have plenty to do just with my own. Maybe he will catch the 40 day bug

  5. Once you have decluttered you feel quite free as if a big weight has been lifted off you. We did a big declutter when we moved house about 6 years ago, it's nearly time to have another declutter, mainly clothes that I don't wear (or don't fit) any more.

  6. It's amazing how quickly things can get cluttered!! It's always the best feeling when you are done and everything is neat, clean and organized! Then the challenge is keeping it that way! :-)

  7. It's amazing how much more free time we have since we did the initial Big Decluttering in 2007.

  8. When you declutter, remember the landfill, and give as much as you can away... there are lots of folks out there that would love your stuff. If you don't want to give it, sell at a rummage sale. Anything that gets reused, stays out of the landfill. Put it out on the driveway with a "Free to a good home" sign on it. It'll be gone in a jiffy.

  9. Here's one more great place that makes me want to clean out the house!
