Snowing in the pines....

It's not every winter day that it snows here... in fact, an entire winter will go by with nary a snowflake to be seen.  That's why even the grown-ups get excited when it snows.... even if we have to have a snow make-up day on Saturday.

Some folks don't care much for snow... but when it snows here, we can enjoy it because we know it won't last long... before you know it, the temps will be in the 50s and we'll not see snowfall til next winter.

Friends are posting on Facebook about if the snow has started, when it began, how much snow they've gotten, how big the snowflakes are and how fast they're falling, whether the sleet has started yet, etc.  Family members are calling to compare notes... while friends and relatives "up north" are amused at our excitement.

I should be working on piecing a quilt top or doing something else chore-like since I'm home all day today.  But I'm not...  snow doesn't happen very often and I like to celebrate the snow when it's here!

Back in the dark ages when I was in school, one of my teachers gave an assignment to listen to the radio that evening to hear an interview with Robert Frost.  I was young enough that I had never heard of Robert Frost and thought it was a dumb assignment.  Listen to the radio?  How old-fashioned was that?  Why wasn't Robert Frost on television like all the cool people?

I know it must be fifty years ago now but I still can hear Mr. Frost, in his deep, quiet voice... slowly reciting his poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"...

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow....

I'm not outside or in a horse-drawn conveyance nor am I working on anything around the house.... but standing by a window, a cup of hot tea in hand, watching the woods fill up with snow.....
