16-Patch Progress: A Finish

I've never had a problem selecting a thread for the binding but this 16-patch was a bit of a puzzler.  I used an off-white/natural thread for the quilting but it was too light/bright for the red binding.  I have a red thread but it stood out like a sore thumb on the soft prints on the red binding.   So I selected...

The grey doesn't blend in with the red but it does tend to disappear or otherwise be unnoticeable.  And the grey blends in with the soft prints on the red background.

After a trip through the washer and dryer, the 16-patch quilt was oh so soft and crinkly....

...and ready to snuggle under!

  1. It's Beautiful on your bed! Beautiful pillowcases, too.
I give my quilting and binding thread colors some thought. I attach the bindings on all my quilts with the sewing machine these days. And always from the back to the front. I feel they will wear better and longer.

  7. I love how your quilt turned out. It's on my bucket list of quilts to make. I love grey for those times it's hard to find a matching thread. It is the "neutral" I use for sewing together blocks. Congratulations and enjoy snuggling under your quilt.

  9. Oh my goodness, Freda, it is just fabulous. Love, love, love it! :o)

Oh and I remember a customer who used to come into the fabric shop where I used to work (many, many moons ago) who claimed that grey thread went with everything. I remember thinking she had a few threads loose in her head but, seeing how the grey blends into your red binding, she actually might have been right!
