Snow Break

Everyone laughs at us Southerners and our reactions to snow... or even the possibility of snow.  However, for us, snow is rare and thus... a huge treat.  It snows, it melts, and we go on with life.... snow is never much of a problem.

School (aka work) was cancelled for Tuesday based on reports from the weather folk but snow didn't arrive til dark... after about an hour of sleet.

By this morning, we had approximately three inches of the white fluffy stuff.

The snow plows are out on the main roads...

...and the sun is starting to come out.

However, it's 19 degrees out with a predicted high around 30 degrees.... so what melting does happen thanks to the sun, will refreeze for a "fun" mess on the roads come morning....

So yes, we Southerners do make a big deal of snow... it's so lovely when it's falling!  So quiet you can almost hear the snowflakes hit the ground...

Then we hunker down because we know what follows...

...of course, making up snow days on Saturdays and over spring break ain't so much fun.

And yes, it does snow at the beach...

I wonder if school will be cancelled tomorrow or if we'll have a two-hour delay?

  1. Here in Hampton Roads, VA we got 6 inches. We had another storm last week. Between Teacher workdays, and half-days for high school exams, the kids have maybe attended 3 days in the last 2 weeks. The working parents are going crazy!--come to think of it, so are the stay-at-home ones. Today everyone is off, including the military and my husband gets a day off. At least they don't have to make it up.

  2. In Central Texas we had sleet that shut everything down for a while including several schools. Like you, we are pretty much strangers to this sort of thing.

  5. It has been snowing all morning here, but because it is not rare, nothing is ever cancelled! It has to be quite a blizzard before things will shut down. But we have the snowplows, sand trucks, snow tires and 4-wheel drive to cope with it. : )
    Sure looks pretty, doesn't it?

  8. I hope I can delay going to work until lunch. Its supposed to be down to 5 in Raleigh tonight, so there will be a ton of black ice and crunchiness on the roads! Enjoy your time at home. Bummer that it has to be made up!

  9. You had just enough! You should have put that lovely red runner on it for some feature shots! Bet you get another day off, and things will melt quickly tomorrow. Till then I am sewing.

  10. The back roads here in Winston were terrible this morning. The sun made some of it go away, but it didn't get above freezing today. Beautiful snow pictures.
Had to take a moment to go back to your last post and admire your lovely table runner.

  11. I'm in Iowa, so we see plenty of ice and snow. I'm like you - it is just beautiful to look at, but not so much fun if you have to get out and drive in it. Those streets look slick!

  12. We've had so much more snow than usual in southwest Ohio this year plus sub-zero temperatures which means it never goes away completely. Hope everybody is safe on the icy roads.
