Southern Belle

I found another traditional block online called Southern Belle, which I thought was quite appropriate for a Civil War commemorative quilt.  Fortunately, this pattern is for an 8" (finished) block so no math was required!

This block is in honor of all the Southern belles who endured the hardships brought by war in their backyards and then survived Reconstruction because they had iron wills.

Photo taken 30 years go, one of the "belles" is me!

These ladies weren't called Steel Magnolias for no reason.

  2. Freda, Love this block!!! I too plan to need 56 blocks. Do you mind if I use this one? It will be perfect with my fabric colors.

  11. I'm totally a southern belle. I like to think so anyway. I'm checking out your blog, looking for Farmer's wife posts. Sheila sent me over.
