Spoolblocks

Yesterday's guest blogger at Stash Manicure was Gmama Jane of Grandmama's Stories who told about klosjes or spoolblocks.

When I saw the photo, I immediately thought, "My good friend Roos makes klosjes...

...she even posted a tutorial to show me how to make my own spoolblock!"

Roos also sent me my very own spoolblock kit with the pattern... and I'm embarrassed to say that, other than cutting out fabric for a spoolblock, I haven't sewn together a spoolblock yet!

"Well," I thought, "I'm going to take my spoolblock kit to work and by jingo... I'm gonna make me a spoolblock during lunch!"

And I did...

...well, almost...  I still have to sew on the last white piece... but I got started!  And with Roos' tutorial to guide me, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.

I had dinner with my friend Deborah after work and showed her my partially sewn spoolblock... and now she wants to make spoolblocks too!

We're going to be having a spoolblock party on this side of the big pond... and it's all the fault of Roos!

  1. Way to get down to business!
And is the Ladies Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society sponsoring this spoolblock party? That may have something to do with whether or not I join. : )

  7. I also thoroughly enjoyed that guest blogger at SM! The spool quilt is on my list of must-make! In fact, the ONLY pattern I purchased at the quilt show is spool blocks...and I just found out the pattern in GI-NORMOUS! Yikes!

  8. I've yet to hand piece a block... not sure if I will attempt a spool block or a hexi block first. Have fun!

  9. Hi!! I am trying to catch up on reading posts of my favorites bloggers...work has been interfering with my blog reading! And now you've gone and made me want to make spool blocks!! Tsk, tsk...what am I going to do with you? One of my favorite versions uses stripes for the "thread" portion and it looked like threads wrapped around the spool.

    Take care, my friend!

  10. I'm so glad I reminded you of your friend's klosjes!! I love her tutorial much better than mine. I don't do tuts very well. I can teach most anything but showing someone how to sew online is not my cuppa if ya know what I mean. I'm going to your friend's blog ASAP. I would love it if you would link back to my blog! Thanks so much!
    Blessings
