Big Blocks

Big block quilts have their place... particularly when you need a baby quilt quickly.  Last spring, one coworker announced the pending arrival of a new addition to her family and, when everyone started back to work in August, I found out that coworker #2 is expecting in December.

Hmmm...  the joint baby shower is next Tuesday.  I made coworker #1 a baby quilt during the summer.

I don't think a gift certificate for diapers is going to cut it for coworker #2... do you?

During our shop hop last Saturday, I found some Amy Butler 1/2 yd cuts on the bargain table and picked up one of each for the baby quilt.

Cut out and sewed the big blocks one afternoon... then quilted and bound (by machine) the next afternoon!

Now I just need to wrap the quilts up and I'll be ready to go!   Gotta love those big block quilts...

  1. Yes, they do have their place--and you found it. Great solution--it is a pretty quilt. They both are, actually.

  2. No matter the size they are both beautiful. Hope you get them wrapped in time... you could go simple and put them in a gift bag with tissue paper.

  4. Those quilts are such nice gifts! I love to give handmade quilts for baby gifts. The big blocks are great for that last minute one too.

It would be nice to always have some on hand . I tend to wait until the last minute, even when I know the baby was on the way for months.

  5. You did a great job on both quilts! I always think that I will make a few baby quilts ahead of time but never seem to get it done.

  6. You did it and with time to spare, hooray! The 2nd one turned out lovely, ready for boy or girl. And the 1st one (ahh...I got to fondle) such fun fabric! Those mommies are going to be so happy when they open YOUR gifts, knowing all the care you took. It's so sweet to imagine the babies sleeping under them.

  15. The more proper way to ask would be "may I"? ;)
