Is there anything more exciting....

....than ripping the foundation paper off a string block?

No... I didn't think so...

  1. I have never used paper. I've done one string quilt and I used muslin squares for the foundation.
The paper you are using looks nice and thin, easy to tear away. Do you prefer to use paper instead of muslin?

  3. I hate doing it, after spending a night ripping it off a lot of blocks, I make sure to do it as soon as the block is finished and trimmed.

  7. Probably, but I hope to compare notes soon! This will be a fun one I think! Upon close inspection, it appears you used waxed paper??
I did find more string quilt tuts, and have spent plenty of time studying the different ones.

  11. I have always used muslin which a heavy block. Your paper looks like parchment, is it?

  12. I don't like tearing away paper, but I used dryer sheets once and they were almost impossible to quilt, so paper it is.

  13. I make those blocks QAYG - the backing & batting are the foundation; no need to remove and the quilting already done for you!
