When I went to the Missouri Star Quilt Company site the other day to get the link to the Christmas throw/quilt tutorial, I noticed they had a new video posted...
Well... I have Christmas fabric leftovers from the holiday table runner I made for my daughter! And.... I have a Dresden template...
I tried to resist.... but I couldn't...
The tutorial was easy to follow (my first Dresden plate) and the pieces went together quickly.
I used a button-hole stitch around the center circle to sew it down and for sewing down the binding (used bias tape cut from the same holly fabric as the center).
The table topper finished at 23" in diameter due to the 11"-long Dresden template I used (MSQC's specialty template is 10" long). I'm sure it will shrink a little after washing and drying.
Someone.... tell me to stay away from fun quilt-y tutorials! *lol*
I *love* watching the Missouri Star tutorials. I'm sure if I met Jenny on the street, I'd speak to her like I knew her - and she'd probably freak out! Who is this person talking to me like I should know who she is?? LOL
ReplyDeleteMind you, the chances of me meeting Jenny on the street in Scotland are slim to none, so I don't suppose she has much to worry about! :oD
Look at you girl! Nothing like getting inspiration...and doing something with it! That's adorable!
ReplyDeleteHow cute and good use of you leftover Christmas scraps. Now it wouldn't be fun if we stayed away from all those great tutorials on the net. Most of the time they are better than magazine or book patterns.
ReplyDeleteLike telling you to stay away would work! Thanks for showing the tutorial. They are really fun, especially the out take at the end. LOL
ReplyDeleteI like yours better!
Hugs
The internet can be a dangerous place...all those "easy and quick" tutorials! Your table topper is very cuter though!
ReplyDeletestop, stop, I keep seeing little tutorials and links to tutorials for cute things, I'm finding it very hard to stay focussed on finishing a project, your tree skirt looks great though, maybe I will think about it for next year :)
ReplyDeleteNice job, especially it being your first plate. Is it a gift or for your table?
ReplyDeleteStay away from fun quilty tutorials! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat looks lovely -- I need to make a Christmas tree skirt but I get the feeling it won't happen this year!
If you don't stay away from them, I'll have to stay away from your blog! Now, on top of everything else, I want to make one of these. Bad Empress! : )
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! You are just in catch up mode.
ReplyDeleteThe tree skirt is so darned sweet.....and the tutorial was so great! Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great! I do love a good Dresden plate.
ReplyDeleteFeelin' better, eh? The topper is terrific!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Freda, if you have any leftovers you could make a treeskirt too.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from the Netherlands,
Roos

I know exactly what you mean about being attracted to shiny objects. I feel like a bird myself sometimes. I love gadgets and when I see one, I can't stop thinking about it...It's got to be an OCD thing or something. I saw this tutorial and I've been tempted ever since. Your little quilt turned out great. I already have a dresden tool or I would have jumped all over this one!! Merry Christmas!
