I found another traditional block online called Southern Belle, which I thought was quite appropriate for a Civil War commemorative quilt. Fortunately, this pattern is for an 8" (finished) block so no math was required!
This block is in honor of all the Southern belles who endured the hardships brought by war in their backyards and then survived Reconstruction because they had iron wills.
Photo taken 30 years go, one of the "belles" is me!
These ladies weren't called Steel Magnolias for no reason.
Interesting block pattern--not sure I've ever seen this one before.
ReplyDeleteFreda, Love this block!!! I too plan to need 56 blocks. Do you mind if I use this one? It will be perfect with my fabric colors.

I like your block...it really is different. Your fabric choices really make it shine!
ReplyDeleteThis block makes me think of pretty stationery envelopes. And I like your fabric choices in the red white and blue theme.
ReplyDeleteNice choice! love how many fabrics you can get into one 8 inch block...
ReplyDeleteYes, many of those southern ladies were a lot stronger than they appeared. Very interesting block.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful block but the photo steals the show!!! I LOVE it!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great block that would fit in wonderfully with the Civil War blocks. Good idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this! I haven't decided if I'm going to do 50 or 56 yet. Love this block though :)
ReplyDeletePretty block, one for me to keep in mind, I'm sure I need a couple of extra blocks.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally a southern belle. I like to think so anyway. I'm checking out your blog, looking for Farmer's wife posts. Sheila sent me over.
