It's that time of year when one thinks back to Christmases past... and all the excitement and anticipation... and searching thru the Christmas editions of catalogs at all the toys!

Television cowboy shows were popular when I was little and we all wanted to be like Roy Rogers and Dale Evans... or Gene Autry.... or The Lone Ranger.... and the catalogs were full of all sorts of things so we could be cowboys too!

Me... I had a major crush on Gene Autry, The Singing Cowboy, who wrote the words to Here Comes Santa Claus as well as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!
Love the photo! My sisters and I all grew up playing with toy guns and other politically incorrect toys, and I don't think we turned out too badly.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Gene Autry wrote those songs -- great video.
I was such a little cowgirl at one time, too. I had my own stick horse, cowgirl boots, straw hat, holster and guns and (get this) fringed black and white cowgirl skirt and vest!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo....I had the fringe skirt and hat and holster set too. Because I was going to be in the movies like Dale Evans. Thanks for the good memories.
ReplyDeleteOh, the memories...love the picture that you shared.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Yes, the Sears Christmas catalog was thrilling! Love seeing the photo of little ones all decked out and ready for play...and you're sharing a big gun!
ReplyDeleteSomewhere, I have a photo of me at 4 or 5 wearing the complete cowgirl outfit while sitting on top of a spotted pony. I must have been afraid of the pony, however, because I was not smiling. I do remember going through the Sears catalog from cover to cover as soon as it arrived. Fun to look back on these early fads in my life. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photo!!! I remember when you could rent a pony for birthday parties so everyone could have their picture taken on one!
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks Empress! Or should I say: Yeehaw?

;)
What a darling pic!!! My parents called me Mary Annie Oakley--I had my own rocking horse and six shooters!
ReplyDeleteOh, the joy and wonder of the Sears Christmas Wish Book as it is called in Canada. I loved going through it. I even downloaded this year's digital version. Still magical.
ReplyDeleteI had a pair of six shooters, a cowboy hat and a tricycle I believed was a horse called Trixie. Trixie and I roamed the Ponderosa Ranch lands and Little Joe was my big brother. Do little kids still have big imaginations?
I'm apparently old enough to be the mother (or grandmother) of all of you. I made cowboy/cowgirl outfits for my two oldest children in the 1950s.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute post! Love the picture :)
