Grandmother's Choice: Block 1, second version

Yes, I am certifiable but I did decide to make two versions of the same block!  This time I used fabrics from my stash of 1930s reproduction fabrics.

This block was challenging in that I don't have what I would call "dark" darks.... or any "light" lights...

...so this block presented its own challenges.....  but it was fun!

  1. Are you serious? You are going to do the 30s blocks, too? It will be very cute, but I'm guessing you are certifiable! : )
Are you trying to avoid reds? I saw a bunch of them in the 30s prints of a LQS just a couple of days ago. At least it would give some depth to these otherwise pastel fabrics, but I'm not saying you need it. Just wondering, but red is about the deepest color you find in the 30s prints.

  5. Using your 30's fabric worked well with this block. That's my problem with using fabrics from that era, everything seems so "medium." Your dark came our very well. I like it.

  7. I love the 30's fabrics! Grandmother's Choice seems to go perfectly with 30's...except for the need of some dark fabrics. That is a challenge with 30's.

  8. Despite your lack of "darks" the block has turned out well. I have often taken a photo of my fabrics, then changed it to a black and white photo, it gives me a good idea of the contrast I will get, or you could look at the fabrics through one of those red cellophane viewers.
