Whatcha Think...

Do you think I can make a jelly roll quilt, from start to finish, by Sunday afternoon?   Or do you think I'm crazy?

Last week, a friend/coworker lost his home to a fire caused by a lightning strike while he and his family were on vacation.  They've lost everything they didn't have with them.

It's going to be a long road ahead for them to rebuild and return to any type of normalcy.  The school is getting together to find ways to help the family....  I was thinking maybe a quilt might be comforting...

  1. To lose everything. That's terrible.
A quilt is a wonderful idea, Freda. I love jelly roll quilts. This Bali Pops pack will make a beautiful jelly roll quilt. They will love it.

  2. I think you can do it. To lose everything would be a terrible experience. Your quilt, and the other donations, will show the school community cares.

  3. I've made one of the scrappy bargello quilts from Bonnie's website in a weekend using precut 2-1/2 inch strips...also made the scrappy trip around the world using precuts. It can be done!

  4. If you don't do anything else all weekend--including eat or sleep--you shouldn't have any problem getting it finished! : )
I love the Bali Pops--though I've never owned one. Such gorgeous, rich colors. I'm sure it will be appreciated.

  5. I think it is a great idea. Can't imagine coming home from a vacation only to find everything gone. You can do it, I know you can. Funny, but I just ordered a new jelly roll, Moda Fellowship, with the idea of making the jelly roll race quilt. The first one I made I didn't care for, but the more I look at it, I like it. Keep us posted.

  6. That's a tall order, but you could probably do it. If you don't finish it, I'm sure they will love it even if its a few days longer. It will be beautiful with the jelly roll you have in the picture.

  8. What a horrible thought! Even the people in the forest fires usually have time to gather & take their more precious items with them... they have some warning. Yes, a quilt will be a comfort. (I do think you are crazy, but God Speed!)

  12. I'm sure you can do it and anything made with a Bali Pop is going to be beautiful. It is wonderful that you can jump in and do this - a quilt is definitely a blanket of love.

  13. How very sad. I'm certain you can do it gf, and in this case time is on your side. That Bali Pop is going to be gorgeous and bring some comfort. Are there children? If so, let me know their genders and ages...I can whip up some pillowcases for them.

  14. I've made several. No doubt in my mind you can do this easily, 1 night the top, one night the sandwich, one night the quilting ( I straight lined on either side of the seams) and one night for the binding. That's not even straining. Go for it.

  15. I saw the other post, so I know you made the finish you wanted to, I just didn't know the heart-driven motivation! What a kind gift, putting feet to your prayers and well-wishes! You are a sweetheart, dear Freda ~
