Pottering Around

After running four errands and arriving back home at 9:17 a.m. yesterday morning, I gave into the influence of several bloggers I follow and started making a scarf for a Christmas present.  I used Red Heart Boutique: Sashay... a new yarn that's out because I always like a challenge!

The yarn looks like a type of ribbon but spread open, it looks like this...

There is a video on the Red Heart website that shows how to work with this yarn... a good thing because the instructions that came with the yarn are pretty sketchy.... at least for a knitter like me.

I worked on my scarf off and on all day and have gotten this far...

I also worked on sewing hourglass blocks together and finished three more 4x4 sections.   I also have the next three blocks on the design wall ready to go today.

While sewing the blocks together, I used one of my stilettos....  which really helped feed corner edges under the presser foot.

The stiletto was also helpful opening those pesky little 1/4" seams when pressing.

I haven't used my mini design boards yet.... but that is only a matter of time!

  1. The scarf looks like lace! It's so pretty. You have many many hourglass units done. I am very impressed. I knit on a baby blanket while watching the Olympics today and only got about 6" done. It's my favorite pattern and I thought I barely needed to look while I was knitting, but apparently I need to look A LOT. And that is one snazzy stiletto.

  2. Beautiful scarf! So lush in color and lacy in design. Love it.
Your hourglass blocks are looking very good!
Isn't it cool to make something so useful that also looks so classy?

  3. Your scarf is going to be great Freda, over here they sell that kind off yarn for several years now. but I never used it myself.
The hourglass blocks are beautiful too, how big were you making them and how large will your quilt be?
I think I've made about 20 blocks now, but because this is a "trainproject" it's not going so fast.

  4. Your scarf is striking! It looks so intricate, it's hard to believe that it is just straight knitting. I love the color variations in the yarn you've chosen.
I've been thinking about Christmas gifts lately, and this may just be the right thing for some coworkers.

  6. The scarf looks fabulous. I'll need to watch that video but I feel the Olympics calling me - to watch them. Not to take part! :oD

  7. The scarf is looking very neat, but hot. It will be stunning and cozy in several months, though. Don't mind me, though, I'm still trying to get used to the heat and humidity here--not too successfully. I can't wait to try using my stiletto! The hourglass blocks are so awesome. You totally have me wanting to tackle that project.

  11. I was bit by the loom knitting bug awhile back and now I have a large plastic bin full of yarn staring at me ever day. At least I hid it well under my design table;)

Really pretty scarf and I do like that stiletto..those bumpy seams can be a real nuisance as you know!
