Jelly Roll Quilt: The Quilting

I had time to think about the quilting while I was doing the pin basting this morning...

...and remembered I'd seen a blog where the blogstress was using wavy lines for quilting!   I thought with all the strong horizontal lines of this quilt and given that it is a more modern quilt.... that organic curves would be perfect.

Since I couldn't remember where I had seen the wavy quilting, I did a search and lo and behold.... I found a tutorial video for waving quilting on Bijou Lovely!

So after cleaning my machine, winding bobbins, changing from the 1/4" foot to a walking foot, and a new needle... off I went!

It took a short while before I got comfortable moving the fabric side to side but it was fun.  When I went back to sew the in between rows, it was easier than I had thought it would be to stay "in the lines."

  1. I like this idea, Freda. Thank you for sharing. I can't wait to try this quilting method. Th lines flow like water. Did you average a wavy line about every inch? Or less? Did you use a variegated threads?
