The Fourth of July

The signers of the Declaration of Independence took a huge risk by signing their names to this document and expected, with good reason, to be hanged for repudiating their government.

Amidst our picnics, cookouts, ball games, and fireworks, it is this brave act we should remember on July 4th...  as well as  all the Americans, men and women, who took risks and made sacrifices, up to and including their lives, for the revolutionary cause.

The hardships suffered and the losses incurred by all, rich and poor, should be remembered today… whether or not their names have been immortalized on a document or in history books.

Have a safe and happy July 4th!

  1. Good point! Not being American, I've never really given it much thought. You know, the American revolution was one of the catalysts for the birth of Australia.

  4. As I was sewing/celebrating, I heard the commentators on NPR read the Declaration of Independence. It was riveting, and powerful. Happy Birthday, USA!
