Last year, I made a table runner for my daughter and, having some fabrics leftover, I decided to make a table topper for my dining room table. What was the adventure? Well, I did my first meander quilting on it... and threw in a little loop-de-loop on the inner border!
Not perfect, of course... there are a couple of loops in the meandering because I got into a place where I needed to change direction and had already headed in the wrong direction.
There are also some points in the curved line... I am just not smooth at starting and stopping... and then getting going again.
This topper will work well for fall... and, after Halloween, I'll add the little turkey salt & pepper shakers that belonged to my mom.
Look at you go! I love the little topper--it looks nice on your table. Doesn't it feel good to have stretched your quilting muscles a bit? Your first meandering? Gosh, my first attempt wouldn't be on any table. It was so jagged and lacking in smooth curves. You did great!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Freda. The quilting is wonderful - the wee pointy bits just give it more character! :o)
ReplyDeleteExcellent start on meandering! All it takes is practice, and I think it is important to practice on actual projects.
ReplyDeleteA great topper and first quilting by fmq. Looks wonderful. This is such a perfect size to practice on, and I am glad to see you try this and succeed. Stretching those wings will make you fly!
ReplyDeleteVery cute topper. I think you did a great job.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of quilting. I still have trouble doing meandering, I think that it is just easier for some people than others.
ReplyDeleteI absolute love your fall table topper!
ReplyDeleteLove the topper and that it will work for two "holidays" is even better!

I think it is a very pretty piece. Quilting, too. You have given me the courage to finish a table topper for Christmas. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteWell done! Next try adding some simple daisies. Try it, you'll like it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I am always amazed when a quilter says that machine quilting is their favorite part of the process. I need A Lot of practice. Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh, I like that so much for fall! I have a fruity table runner but it looks way too summery. I need one like yours!
ReplyDeleteI really like this and the fact that you did some machine quilting on it. I've never gotten comfortable with free motion quilting.
