The past school year was rough and I won't go into all the trials and tribulations again. However, I was worn down both physically and emotionally. Just out and out blah... not even much interested in sewing / quilting... OR even buying fabric. Yup... it was that bad. My last day of work for the 2012-2013 school year was this past Thursday, June 27th... and I am now on summer vacation for the entire month of July! Then I ran across THIS POST by my blogging buddy JoAnne of The Patriotic Quilter!

A pinwheel block! What's not to love about a pinwheel block, especially in patriotic colors & fabrics! And particularly when it turns into a quilt this lovely....

Okay.... I did a little stash diving and came up with...
...and found the quilt block I need!
Yup! The block is called "Turnstile" in this book; however, it is the double pinwheel that I need to replicate JoAnne's quilt. If you look closely, the book give the cutting measurements for six different finished sizes of the block. No math to be done... I am a happy camper!
Thanks for the inspiration, JoAnne, my wonderful blogging buddy! Let the fun begin!
Psst... I also ordered some more patriotic fabrics just now. I think I'm getting rejuvenated...
So glad to see you get inspired!! JoAnne's projects are awesome!!! You have often been in my thoughts, so sent prayers up for you! Have a very relaxing July!
ReplyDeleteBlessings Sweet Freda!
Wonderful news gf! Time to vaca, rest, and enjoy the things you like to do. This looks like a fun easy pattern, too. I miss sewing almost every day, but I must strike while the torch is hot! Looking forward to your progress!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are getting a break from the stress of the school year--and I'm glad you found your quilting mojo from JoAnne! Hmm, a pinwheel block. Perfect for a "flag waving" quilt. That is one I haven't made this year. No, don't get me started again!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful start to your summer break. Looking forward to seeing your pinwheels completed. Enjoy the time.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm glad if I could help to inspire you. I didn't know you were in a slump. I hope you can really enjoy the summer break. I know that when I worked, I just didn't seem to have the creative energy that I needed to quilt with and so I didn't do much for 2-3 years. I also didn't have any good quilting friends, and that was before I knew about quilt blogs.
ReplyDeleteThat's the way, ah huh, we like you - rejuvenated! You go Girl!

Enjoy your month off, Freda. Your turnstile/double pinwheel in patriotic colours is the ideal way to start it off. :o)
ReplyDeleteYou never know what will inspire you! Got to keep that stash full. Great block, great colors, great quilt! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt! I know yours will be amazing.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you forget all the trouble of last schoolyear, working on this beauty Freda.

That's my kind of quilt - anxious to see what you do with the pattern.

Buying fabric is a very good sign! Have fun with the block.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found your mojo back. As a teacher I too completely understand how that can happen. Have a fun break a good luck for next years crop :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. Love the colors. Book looks like a most excellent reference. Have a great summer :D
ReplyDeleteHey Freda! Thanks for your comment on QuiltSues post yesterday regarding the loss of my mind and forgetting where I saw a certain quilt! You helped me a great deal in my search and I really appreciate it! Check out the response I posted on Sues page this morning!
