Do you remember this quilt? It's my version of Bonnie Hunter's Smoky Mountain Stars.
One of Bonnie's tips is to double sew the corner squares so you have little HSTs instead of a bunch of triangles. I decided to give it a whirl...
Since then, these HSTs have been sitting in a basket... waiting patiently. Took over a year before I decided it was time....
First, came a lot of pressing open of the HSTs... then sewing two together...
....and more pressing...
...and some more sewing...
...more pressing followed by more sewing!
A tube of lip balm for comparison
Still have a way to go... but I'm getting there!

You had a very productive Friday evening, Freda! :o)
ReplyDeleteWow! I love it when a plan comes together! This will be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love getting the bonus! Bonnie rocks! So do your pinwheels! :o)
ReplyDeleteGreat stack of tiny pinwheels!!!! You got a lot done on these. Love it.
ReplyDeleteVery cool trick! That Bonnie is a smart cookie!
ReplyDeleteI follow Bonnie and have several of her books, but I somehow missed the trick of double sewing. Can't wait to see how it all comes out!
ReplyDeleteGood going. Nice to see them coming together. I do that to my squares/HST's all of the time. My next big project is to make a full - queen size from the pieces left over from my 80 inch Swoon block. That's probably half of the sewing already finished.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lot of work to take the second pass on the original HST, cut and press but you are going to end up with a fun quilt of pinwheels! Nice FNSI results!
ReplyDeleteWow, is that a chapstick on top? Gee-manetti! Those must be teensy HSTs! You got a lot accomplished!
ReplyDeleteSuch plaid fun! That's a great friday night!
ReplyDeleteFun, fun, fun!!! I love little hst!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a weekend filled with peace, love and joy!!
How neat to have all those hst's ready for a quilt! Good tip, thanks!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I actually do this step every time there is a throw-away corner. I call them "redeemed squares", as you have now put value to something that was meant to be tossed out. Love it! So, what are you gonna do with them thar little pieces? I'm waiting to see ~

What a lot of work you had Freda but such a gorgeous outcome.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious what you're going to make of them.
Greetings Roos
Fantastic! Love the fabrics and can't wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I hate working on HSTs, but you make them look fantastic. And you did so many of them! Great FNSI result. :)
