A Little Sewing

I'm doing better... but still a long way from "completely recovered."  So... to distract myself, I did a little sewing the day before Thanksgiving....  a table runner for my daughter, modeled here by my darling granddaughters, still in their jammies.

I even did FMQ-ing for the very first time!  It's supposed to looking like the outlined path of snowflakes falling...  what do you think?

The fabrics came from my FQ stash and I used a pale gray thread to quilt.  I wasn't up to making a trip to the LQS for silver thread, which was my first idea.

I followed a Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial...

...and used the cardboard template I had made earlier this fall.  This is a quick and easy project... even if you make it as long as I did.

It felt good to be sewing again...  but I'm still going to have to pace myself.

Addendum:  Several have asked about how I made the cardboard wedge template, including Judy who, unfortunately, is a no-reply blogger (meaning I do not have a way to reply to her via email).

The "how to" is in the post "Cheap?" and the exact measurements of my triangle are:

Base of isosceles triangle:  8 inches
Sides of isosceles triangle:  11.5 inches
Base angles of isosceles triangle:  70 degrees
Top angle of isosceles triangle: 40 degrees  (70 + 70 + 40 = 180, the total amount of degrees in all three angles of any triangle... a little math fact fer ya!)

Hope this helps!

  1. The table runner turned out beautifully and your FMQing is wonderful. Great job! I must be strong.... need to finish some things before I start more, but I'm being tempted to try one of these.....

Glad you are feeling better. :o)

  5. This runner is a fabulous idea!! Now I have to ask---how did you draw up your cardboard wedge for making this? I don't have the wedge ruler but it does look like a wonderful tool. I would like to make one of these for a friend who has a thing for trees. Love your quilting on yours. I do see the falling snowflakes. :)

  7. Glad you are feeling better. Just be sure not to overdo.
I also would like to know how you made the wedge ruler. I would love to make a table runner for my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas. I spend every Christmas with them, and would love to show them how appreciative I am.
    Thanks!

  10. I'm so glad you're feeling a wee bit better, Freda. :o)

Your table runner looks fabulous as does your FMQ. I've only tried that a time or two and it wasn't pretty! I decided I'm more of a straight-line quilter - aka too lazy to try FMQ again any time soon! :oD

  13. I echo that I like your fabric choices better than the ones in the video. Very cute runner held up by some charming little models!
Your first attempt at FMQ puts me to shame. I couldn't make loops that round when I tried the first time. You must be a natural and should definitely pursue it. : )
    Take care, my friend!
