Hourglass Progress

A week or so ago, I posted about starting my next quilt:  a scrappy hourglass quilt that I saw on the cover of volume two of Sew Scrappy quilt magazine.

So far, I've made 86 hourglass blocks and the one 9-patch block that so intrigued me about this quilt...

Notice the clothespins?  I stole got the idea from Patty over at A Stitch in Time... I thought it was a great way to keep a count of the number of blocks without using pins to keep them together!

I have also been busy going thru all the 1800's reproduction fabrics and cutting 5" squares.  It takes a while to cut almost 600 squares but I'm doing a little each evening after work...

...and I'll get done eventually!

  7. I love this quilt. I have saved the pattern, too, telling myself, "Someday."
Are you just putting in the one 9-patch? I love the randomness of it.
You will have this completed soon, I know, because you are good at focusing and not getting distracted like so many of the rest of us. : )

  8. 600! That's quite an undertaking! But who doesn't love making HST's? I know I do! It's nice to have a couple of projects going at one time, for a change of pace/scenery.

  9. That's a whole lot of cutting! Good idea to break it up into a few each evening. I think it will be worth the work. It is certainly a beautiful pattern.

  10. If you cut 60 pieces a day you would have it done in 10 days...I always make goals like that then drive myself crazy trying to keep up with them! Love this quilt though...enjoy the process...

  15. The clothespins (we call then "pegs") are a great idea. A little bit every day will see the project done before you know it. Mind you, it may not feel like it while you're working through it.
