The Next Project


I'm down to three UFOs but the urge to start a big (or long term) project is strong within me.... so I've succumbed to this...


I have a lot of fabric left from the tumbler quilt and the Civil War quilt...


...and I've picked up a couple of charm packs on sale.


This Scrappy Hourglass quilt (designer: Kathie Holland) is intriguing...


..plus it has some built-in fun!  


There are several odd blocks like this solitary nine-patch tucked in among the quarter-square triangle blocks for folks to find and ponder if that was a mistake.... or was it planned?



The directions are somewhat intimidating...


...yes, that is well over 600 finished blocks in this quilt!  However, there is no deadline on this quilt and I will be making as many blocks at a sitting as I wish.  
  
Takes a year to finish?   *shrug*   Some folks have leader-and-ender stuff going on.... and that's what this quilt will be for me...  I'll get there!

    that's a lot of cutting out, but I'm sure you'll do it no problem. Could be a good project to use as Leaders and Enders when you are sewing other things.

    I like the look of that quilt, but this is another one that I'm going to strongly resist :)

    I love this quilt! I have the magazine, too. In fact, I have both and love them both. There are so many fun projects. Don't obsess with the amount of blocks, have fun with them all!

    Love all the different fabric patterns and colors. And I spied a spool block in there, too! It's going to be an amazing quilt!
    I have been perusing my quilting books lately, thinking about beginning a new project...I'm pretty sure it will involve HSTs!

    You are brave for tackling this. Mine would have to be done with a larger size block I am afraid. But do love it and know yours will be so special. Enjoy.

    You'll be amazed how quickly those blocks will stack up! BTW, don't you just love those Friendship fabrics! I've used two charm packs and I never use charm packs!

    I have always loved the hourglass block. Perfect for CW's and reproductions. You know Rosemary Youngs is just going to start another weekly block quilt along from her new book just out Civil War Quilts. Six inch blocks, I'm thinking about doing it but the blocks are a little intimidating. Maybe Kathy's hourglass is a better way to go. What issue of AP&Q was it in? Six hundred blocks-----WOW!

    I love leader ender projects. It is amazing how fast they come together with just the tinest bit of organizing. This will be a wonderful quilt.

    Sometimes it is good to have pieces to cut or blocks to sew that you know are going into a long term project. It is very restful for the mind. The fabrics you will be using are quite wonderful. Look forward to your progress reports.

    thought about doing this quilt myself....if only I didn't have my Oh My Stars quilt along that STILL needs finished...lol

    Last November four friends and I decided to make this quilt. We did it in Civil War "style". As a fun thing we exchanged one alternative block. I made churn dashes (it's my favourite block), another friend did an appliqué flower, another did a friendship star, the last two were squares in squares and a surrounded four patch. I made mine a little bigger and had 750 blocks.
    One of the friends from the swap and I are doing a mystery quilt, the blocks this month needed 48 hour glass blocks. We laughed at how easy that seemed now!
    I hope you enjoy making this quilt as much as I did.

    oh your going to have fun making this quilt
    just keep cutting squares from fabrics as you use them and before you know it you will have enough for the quilt top
    I am actually planning on making this quilt again! but larger!!!!
    have fun and keep us posted, nice to know people make the quilts in the magazines
