New Project: Day 2

After the kids left yesterday, I was able to complete another 13 string blocks...  and tonight, I'll tear off all the backing paper.

I'm now thinking about what binding to use with this uber busy quilt-to-be...

In other news... today is the 100th anniversary of the first Girl Scout meeting, which was held in Savannah, GA.

  1. The first time I saw a quilt done this way I did not like it. But I have started to change my ways and now I really think this kind of quilt is cool. Though I don't know if I am so up to the idea of paper piecing it though.

  2. I was a girl scout in my childhood days. Sold cookies door-to-door, went to camp, earned badges--loved it!
Your string quilt is going to be a beauty. The blocks dance with joy. Wonderful!

I used to be a girl guide many moons ago.

  4. I love your string blocks. I think that is the most relaxing piecing you can do and your blocks turned out so pretty.

  6. Love the string blocks. I was a girl scout way back when, then a troop leader when my daughter was a girl scout. We even made a pilgramige to Savannah when Lisa was young. Great organization.

  7. Your strings are coming together very well! It's hard to see exact colors on my older-than-dirt monitor but maybe a soft green for the border?

  8. That looks so effective, it's amazing all the fabric has come from the scrap boxes.
I used to be a Girl Guide a few years ago; their centenary was in 2010 I think.

  9. Wow! You and the girls make a good team. You turned those blocks out in no time at all. So cute and all from scraps!

  11. This IS a beauty! This kind of quilt may be on my list for trying next; I currently have 2 WIPs, so I'm trying to wait. I've googled string quilt tuts, and so far the ones I've found, the 1st strip is glued to a muslin block backing, then strips sewn to either side of that strip.
Ok, I'll chime in...I was a Brownie, and still have my little uniform and beanie cap! I have fond memories of it...great mentoring.

  12. What a great way to use up your scraps and it's even better with the help you had...;o)

  13. That's a really beautiful quilt and even better that it's made from scraps.

I never had the chance to be a Girl Scout but my granddaughters have made up for it.
