Color Catchers: Do they work?

A lot of the fabrics I use are precuts, small pieces, etc... and yes, I am too lazy to wash and iron all that fabric.   So I've relied on Color Catchers lately just in case...

An unused Color Catcher is shown in front as a comparison... the colors are faded (overcast and rainy here today).... but YES!  I'd say they work!

The one of the far right is darker because I used one sheet the first time... from then on, I used two.  The two tan ones are from Smoky Mtn Stars, and two of the pink ones are from the Hometown quilt... can't remember the others right off.

Better safe than sorry....

This review of Color Catcher is my own opinion.   I was not paid to make it nor did I receive any freebies to do so.  Just wanted to share my experience!

  1. I usually wash all my fabric but with the smaller pieces it doesn't seem worth it and lately I've been thinking that I could be doing better things with my time (lazy as well) so it's useful to hear other's opinions on things like these colour catchers as I suspect I'll be using these in the future.

The color catchers themselves look quite pretty, I've heard about people using them in art quilts.

  2. I have always wondered about this and heard about them going to try them on my granny squares when I wash them.

  3. I used to prewash everything. Then I got rebellious and quit. Now I use color catchers. So far no problems, but I haven't washed many quilts yet that weren't from pre-washed fabrics.

  4. It is good to read a review on the sheets. In the near future, I need to wash a quilt with bold colors and wondered about the colors running.

  5. I never pre-wash fabric and I love Color Catchers. I even used them with a red and white quilt and had no trouble at all. I always say that I live by Color Catchers and Downy Wrinkle Release (my iron is for fabric, not clothes!)

  6. Glad to read they work for you. :) I love it when a product really works out. I don't prewash anything myself but I rely on my magic wand. (kidding) Seriously - I use retayne.

  7. They work for me also, I never pre-wash. I didn't know about using two in the wash water, I only use one. Will you use your tip next time.

  8. P.S. Forgot to ask you, "was the tumbler hard." What size and did you use special template?

  9. I REALLY need to get me some of these. I certainly don't want my colors to run together the first time I send them through because I have a tendency to not prewash because I hate to iron. Thanks for posting this blog.

  10. I prewash but still use a color catcher the first time I wash a quilt!

  11. I never prewash. I use the color catcher all the time. I've never been burned using them so I'll just knock on wood and cross my fingers cause I don't want to jinx anything.

  12. I love mine... reds, oranges, scrappy- nothing has gotten through them yet and I use a LOT of white with my colors.

  13. I just bought some Kona Red fabric and threw it in the washer with Retayne, Tide and a color catcher. Then I did it again. And again. The last and final time (#5) I did not use the Tide, just the Retayne and the color catcher. It came out white instead of pink. I wonder what is in the Tide (unscented) that is making the color run? Wish I knew a bit of chemistry.

  14. I love sewing with batiks, which freqently seem to have issues with colors running. Consequently I have been a fan of Color Catchers for a long time.
