This week's block is #48 of 53... so only five more to go! I'd been saving a good size fabric remnant to use and thought this week's block would be perfect.... *bzzzzz*
It was too narrow! I love this flower and decided to piece it to make it large enough...
After I was finished, I realized I could have "framed" the center block so it would look less pieced... but I am not taking it apart! Y-seams are not easy, imho!
It turned out very nice, wouldn't notice the piecing if you hadn't mentioned it. I will have some CW make-up sewing when I get home
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful flower--nice block. Don't you love the "duh!" moments? I've had a couple of them just this evening. : )
ReplyDeleteI avoid Y-seams like the plague. Don't blame you for not redoing it.
I'm keeping a couple of fabrics back, I really love that flower and until I finished reading didn't realise that you had pieced it. I'm with you there on the Y-seams, not my favourite thing.
ReplyDeleteHardly noticeable....love the waste not approach of piecing it! You have learned a lot with all these blocks....great job.
ReplyDeleteMakes it look even more vintage...I think my quilting teacher in Pennsylvania called that frugal piecing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I agree with YankeeQuilter about it having more of a vintage look. When are you going to post a photo of all the blocks together? Do we have to wait until the very end? Inquiring minds want to see them now. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou know this is what the ladies at that time in history would have done. They were more about thrift than we are... and some of them actually made a block or two incorrectly so their quilt wouldn't be so "perfect"... more of a religious reason than a practical reason. But as an artist, you have two very good reasons here to use IF anybody actually notices your "fixit".
ReplyDeleteYou've really made your quilt more authentic this way.
Hugs~
Looking forward to seeing this all assembled. How big are these blocks?
ReplyDeleteLooks great!! I wouldn't take it apart either!! Like your fabric choices!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
I love the block - all of the colors match perfectly.
