Color Catchers: Do they work?

A lot of the fabrics I use are precuts, small pieces, etc... and yes, I am too lazy to wash and iron all that fabric.   So I've relied on Color Catchers lately just in case...

 

An unused Color Catcher is shown in front as a comparison... the colors are faded (overcast and rainy here today).... but YES!  I'd say they work!

The one of the far right is darker because I used one sheet the first time... from then on, I used two.  The two tan ones are from Smoky Mtn Stars, and two of the pink ones are from the Hometown quilt... can't remember the others right off.

Better safe than sorry....

The Tumbler: A Finish

Today, I finished the Tumbler quilt, which will be going to my nephew Daniel for his college graduation in May.

I used the same Moda Bella solid as I used for the Smoky Mtn Stars quilt and machine sewed it down as well.   I'm liking this fast and easy!

 

The quilt is now in the wash, on it's way to soft and crinkly!

Smoky Mtn Stars: Finished!

Yesterday, I finished binding the Smoky Mountain Stars quilt.

I didn't have enough of the blue plaids left to make binding so I used a Moda Bella solid:  American Blue.

Debbie of Angel Scraps Quilting recommended a machine-sewn binding tutorial by Prudent Baby... and I decided to try it.

 

It worked very well and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out! This quilt is going to one of my nephews and may see hard use, I thought this would be better than binding that is hand-sewn down.

David, the recipient-to-be of the Smoky Mtn Stars quilt, is on the right and is shown with his younger brother and their mother...  my sister Carol.   As a frame of reference, Carol is 5'10" tall.   

David's "lap quilt" is a bit larger than a typical lap quilt.
