<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">As a friend commented yesterday, I bought the half-yard cuts of fabric with a purpose so... I turned said fabric into grocery bags!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">The newly purchased fabric never made it into my stash!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Yesterday, I was taking a friend to pick up her car at the dealership where it was getting serviced. We had lunch first and decided to stop at <a href="https://www.tuesdaymorning.com/" target="_blank">Tuesday Morning <i><span style="font-size: large;">(link)</span></i></a> to browse. Had no intention of buying anything but the store is fun to wander through and see what they have... never know what you'll find.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="color: black; font-size: x-large;">Now, I've sworn off buying fabric and am determined to shop my stash for projects; however, when I came across these, I stopped to look. At first, I thought they were fat quarters but they "felt different" when I picked them up... upon further examination, I realized they were half-yard cuts. And for $1.49, too! </span></span><br />

If bagged with plastic... you'd need two bags at least.... and I'd be worried that the corners of the saran wrap box would cut the plastic and I'd end up with a broken jar of spaghetti sauce on the concrete driveway.</span></span><br />

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">Even though I had placed a moratorium on fabric purchases a while ago, I realized that my stash was at SABLE stage: Stash Amassed Beyond Life Expectancy. So, I found a pattern/tutorial for grocery bags online and did a bit of sewing.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhof0izl5oKC2CZogAgkN-867aSAPMl3kSd8XRngdHdYHKzVmPO5-Kj7UDOESczfYRdMgHn91ToyBx_7K4tXQzPJwGL3RIi0hXF4OjXsGTRBK1HQtKdDS0ropUPpKS2jphaBukd4RW7StP/s1600/shopping+bag+original.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1196" data-original-width="1600" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhof0izl5oKC2CZogAgkN-867aSAPMl3kSd8XRngdHdYHKzVmPO5-Kj7UDOESczfYRdMgHn91ToyBx_7K4tXQzPJwGL3RIi0hXF4OjXsGTRBK1HQtKdDS0ropUPpKS2jphaBukd4RW7StP/s640/shopping+bag+original.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">This morning, I made a grocery run and these shopping bags definitely have a lot of positives:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">1. Using these will reduce my consumption of plastic bags. I don't want to see any more photos of animals killed or deformed by plastics dumped in their environments.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">2. These bags are sturdier than plastic bags so I won't, for example, have any more burpless cukes poking a hole in a plastic bag and ending up on the driveway or on the floor in the kitchen.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">3. This sturdiness also allows more items to be placed in the bags so there are fewer bags to manage out to the car and into the house.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">4. The handles do not slide on and do not cut into my arm when lugging them into the house. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">5. The cheerful, fun bags help make a chore a bit more pleasant.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbFrsNOjBuzHhA1FBir9ULTgEERiiO35GhNU8fO-8ZTcSOrvIbTtOSc8Lk8mz0helO16DalWdKSc4Sz25c5F95MGFv-F9F0EVg5D91ffzKJZBs9wx_2DIJO5uMehpxUpdFhi0KAJ0iPSW/s1600/shoping+bags+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1196" data-original-width="1600" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbFrsNOjBuzHhA1FBir9ULTgEERiiO35GhNU8fO-8ZTcSOrvIbTtOSc8Lk8mz0helO16DalWdKSc4Sz25c5F95MGFv-F9F0EVg5D91ffzKJZBs9wx_2DIJO5uMehpxUpdFhi0KAJ0iPSW/s640/shoping+bags+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: x-large;">The <a href="http://www.stitchedbycrystal.com/2011/09/tutorial-fat-quarter-reusable-grocery.html" target="_blank">tutorial and pattern is by Stitched by Crystal <span style="font-size: large;"><i>(link)</i></span></a> and it is easy to follow. The bags go together quickly, even though all the seams in the bag are French-seams. The most difficult part was selecting fabrics. The pattern calls for fat quarters and most FQs I have are singles.... so the backs and front of the bags are different, though coordinated. The lining, which takes one FQ, is also coordinated rather than matching. It was nice to put a small dent in the stash... and good to have these fabrics out where I can enjoy them!</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">One of the younger members of a knit/crochet group I belong to is expecting in early August and we're all making things for her. Since this isn't her first child, she doesn't need much and the rest of the group is knitting or crocheting things for her... so I decided to make a quilt to put on the floor for tummy time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg00vSQdc5Hk0j5LFCAc57R3E_75jN3Mrgbz4Sqzv3Cys5eCPrHe7972pIrZITZCeVh3WqUYltLsO3DwVc3xbpC_IcqI40tGCJOVcRbg_WTPw3Znv3RpdoG2qLOeT3VPe12PbgNjis7Igq/s1600/baby+quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1011" data-original-width="1600" height="404" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg00vSQdc5Hk0j5LFCAc57R3E_75jN3Mrgbz4Sqzv3Cys5eCPrHe7972pIrZITZCeVh3WqUYltLsO3DwVc3xbpC_IcqI40tGCJOVcRbg_WTPw3Znv3RpdoG2qLOeT3VPe12PbgNjis7Igq/s640/baby+quilt.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I challenged myself to use only stash... and I did! The flannel squares, cut from yardage to make crib sheets, needed to be trimmed to 8" and went together quickly, although random-looking placement was a bit of a challenge. I was worried about doing meander quilting since it's been a while... but it came back quickly. Not perfect but looks good to me! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Another project I just had to try was <a href="https://www.leftinknots.com/home/2017/5/3/crochet-water-balloons-using-bernat-blanket-stipes" target="_blank">water balloons (link)</a>! I've become concerned about the amount of plastics being dumped around the world and am doing small things to reduce my plastic consumption such as not using plastic straws at restaurants. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN2OtqaUAtu7kNWpzZ_WLYR0G6u-Rhd0RKGO93GfHv73bWS7KBVhTMTGGZ3-KmSrTtfdMQq8vmN7-NnlG6IbZLJOOZb23btaKa2ABMctRui8xyPSVmUY862ytT-aH5XMqfWZ20_Z7jen4t/s1600/balloon+finished.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1146" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN2OtqaUAtu7kNWpzZ_WLYR0G6u-Rhd0RKGO93GfHv73bWS7KBVhTMTGGZ3-KmSrTtfdMQq8vmN7-NnlG6IbZLJOOZb23btaKa2ABMctRui8xyPSVmUY862ytT-aH5XMqfWZ20_Z7jen4t/s640/balloon+finished.JPG" width="458" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">The "balloons," soaked in a bucket of water, will be fun for the grandkids to chase each other with and, I think, will make for something to toss to them to catch as they jump into the pool. The balloons can be washed and dried... or hung up to dry. Quick and simple to make, it's a good project to keep my hands busy in the evening.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I've not been getting email notices of comments and need to get better about checking here more frequently. Hope Blogger gets that bug fixed quickly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Have sewing projects perking in the never-ending task of putting lots of fabric to good use. It's good to be back to quilting tho... I missed it more than I realized!</span><br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Youngest grandgirl wanted a romper to wear this summer so, after a road trip to find fabric, I spent the day cutting out and sewing together one for her.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZHvcbXsDPQkPCpxZpxjYVb4S2ncZUfBZP5a9R6ogrDuWGQxAsMIGIOR5Q962bDKlOeQlQK7-A1-zX0avWvY37km-PPWsZve6C62-jbLSi7cYbi7TqPFgmA9haRXXdCgFkqz42g_XyEl7K/s1600/romper+1+ed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1393" data-original-width="1600" height="556" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZHvcbXsDPQkPCpxZpxjYVb4S2ncZUfBZP5a9R6ogrDuWGQxAsMIGIOR5Q962bDKlOeQlQK7-A1-zX0avWvY37km-PPWsZve6C62-jbLSi7cYbi7TqPFgmA9haRXXdCgFkqz42g_XyEl7K/s640/romper+1+ed.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I do need her to try it on so I can check to see if the elastic lengths are okay....</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5RdBlFCfwoEURC3PGQk7m3BHEr1ba6_teXGVxPBTtC3rxkFH3VO77lR0CrZywdMQKWOop9hALuMmDk_l1nYw_C3m-B7sjadRAP4-ET5pS4pNyHIRAZ4QXyrPAtZ5gf5s5nmWW_k3clUn8/s1600/romper+2+ed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="835" data-original-width="1600" height="332" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5RdBlFCfwoEURC3PGQk7m3BHEr1ba6_teXGVxPBTtC3rxkFH3VO77lR0CrZywdMQKWOop9hALuMmDk_l1nYw_C3m-B7sjadRAP4-ET5pS4pNyHIRAZ4QXyrPAtZ5gf5s5nmWW_k3clUn8/s640/romper+2+ed.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">...then she'll be ready to go! It was nice to be at the sewing machine again... must do that again soon!</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I'm sure a lot of folks are like me and need to have a project or task to keep the mind engaged to prevent worrying about other life issues. One fun project was to <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/126495488/crochet-pattern-timothy-the-t-rex" target="_blank">crochet a dinosaur</a><a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/126495488/crochet-pattern-timothy-the-t-rex" target="_blank"> (link)</a> for my first great nephew who was born less than a week after my lumpectomy.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Connor lives in Florida so it won't be until early July before I get to hold him... but looking at his photo makes me smile while I wait.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Well, it seems that nothing about breast cancer is cut and dried so the roller coaster continues even though the downhill parts aren't as frightening.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghwCTerDB_dIKWphDeS0RT2iS7ejcS0IJGi1edo7r6i56qkIIYrnk3fJVMyw5DN_rtBb2M0Cndv7pAzJL-ZWhwrVnNFaCqkn7_sLMOgm7OrM9g72NEhR5-hDux13XJZd2xoOzI5hqavL-w/s1600/roller+coaster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="303" data-original-width="612" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghwCTerDB_dIKWphDeS0RT2iS7ejcS0IJGi1edo7r6i56qkIIYrnk3fJVMyw5DN_rtBb2M0Cndv7pAzJL-ZWhwrVnNFaCqkn7_sLMOgm7OrM9g72NEhR5-hDux13XJZd2xoOzI5hqavL-w/s640/roller+coaster.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">My doctor presented my case to a group of physicians who deal with breast cancer on a full-time basis and there is no clear consensus about where to go next. I'm signed up for mammograms every six months for the next 3 yrs. The discussion concerning additional treatment is still on the table and I will consult with an oncologist the latter part of June. Online research continues and I've contacted a cousin on my father's side about hers and her mother's history of breast cancer.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I'm sharing information with my sisters and daughter so they won't be as in the dark as they make decisions regarding mammograms. Hopefully, they won't ever need to use the information in any other way...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">In the meantime, I'm staying busy with crafty-type projects and just blocked my <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wonder-woman-wrap-crochet" target="_blank">Wonder Woman Wrap (crochet)</a>. There is also a <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wonder-woman-wrap-knit" target="_blank">knitted version</a> (link).</span><br />

.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I've been crocheting for a while now but methinks the sewing bug has awoken from hibernation... so I expect to be quilting shortly. One must stay busy, yes?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Since retirement last June, there have been a number of health issues that required taking care of and were generally a pain in the kazoo. Nothing that was going to kill me or anything, just issues that needed resolving. I did do my usual Google-thing and read up on everything and was glad retirement hadn't interfered with my search skills. Then came March 2018...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">After going in for my annual mammogram, I got the phone call saying I needed to come back in for another mammogram. Fun times. The second mammogram was followed by a sonogram and I got to sit in a stuffy room while the radiologist read the results. Seems there were a "cluster of microcalcifications"... not as bad as a "line of microcalcifications" but still worrisome. Went home and Googled "microcalcifications" and then... "breast cancer."</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Now, no lumps were felt during the manual exam and no tumors showed up on any scans, just the microcalcifications. Then, since it was late Friday afternoon, I got to wait over the weekend to hear from my primary care provider. Don't you just love waiting?</span><br />

There was a lot of Googling for additional information... did you know that 1 in 8 women get breast cancer?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">More waiting around for a lumpectomy followed by waiting for the pathology report on the excised tissue. That came through an electronic portal that the hospital has.... giving me a detailed report written in medical-ese that required more Googling. Now I am waiting on the post-procedure appointment where I'll find out if my interpretation of the report matches the surgeon's.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">I am recovering well with no pain and recovery is supposed to take 2 weeks. I'm able to do more each day but still need to rest some in the afternoon. In addition to resting, I'm doing things that make me happy / lifts my spirits. Today, I had a cute hair appointment and ran several errands before heading home, including a stop at a local yarn shop.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">I don't know why I wasn't afraid during all this. I was irritated by all the waiting around and being messed with.... just wanted folks to leave me alone. I do know that prior to surgery... radiation was not being discussed.... so that's good. I marvel at the miracle of the new machine that detected the microcalcifications (seems that my immune system was going after the abnormal cells, laying down calcium during their efforts). I'm in awe that the surgery was so targeted and precise. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that 5 days post-surgery, I was sleeping on my tummy again.</span><br />

Final comment for today: <i><b>Don't skip your annual mammogram!</b></i></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"> think the only thing worse to me than having to go shopping for a new handbag is when the bra style you've worn for 20 years gets discontinued. So... when baby sister gave me a new handbag for my birthday, I was excited. Going from a tote style handbag with six interior pockets and an exterior pocket... I needed to ponder on how I was going to organize stuff so it wouldn't be in one big jumble at the bottom.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdyy2thk5uY98-n9GxSt2EGfMzZql4NO8AoeAX5glY0OIkUMFZ7sYOgjFxEWXBXx2MZnTdwonfcrMvDQ7YGr9VkIUtBh3UqOj6SxT9gzN-xyQGCV-gNBMR9mHNFwmxViihCLPsmW5_GSIA/s1600/1+zipper+pouch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="897" data-original-width="1600" height="358" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdyy2thk5uY98-n9GxSt2EGfMzZql4NO8AoeAX5glY0OIkUMFZ7sYOgjFxEWXBXx2MZnTdwonfcrMvDQ7YGr9VkIUtBh3UqOj6SxT9gzN-xyQGCV-gNBMR9mHNFwmxViihCLPsmW5_GSIA/s640/1+zipper+pouch.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I used batiks left over from other quilty projects but had to purchase a purple zipper to go with it. Could have used another color but hey! I like purple!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimNEKZQF8uAv9riJElfIvan-jZmZj9o9YbWYkzgqsY5_e37qfIziFzX6DAedIK0Bg61F9XnG_-Of3U8nv4EcjS2Dd3jzpjLYj_9iE4yIotIhMdbDMctlI6KjeyJpAEZrSl3eYZMUFW7tux/s1600/1+zipper+pouch+inside.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="270" data-original-width="460" height="374" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimNEKZQF8uAv9riJElfIvan-jZmZj9o9YbWYkzgqsY5_e37qfIziFzX6DAedIK0Bg61F9XnG_-Of3U8nv4EcjS2Dd3jzpjLYj_9iE4yIotIhMdbDMctlI6KjeyJpAEZrSl3eYZMUFW7tux/s640/1+zipper+pouch+inside.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I weeded through everything in my tote since I won't need as much stuff as I did when I was working. That will lighten the weight of what I need to carry everyday.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">The zipper pouch (made from a tutorial by </span><a href="https://noodle-head.com/2012/06/open-wide-zippered-pouch-diy-tutorial.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Noodlehead </span><i><span style="font-size: large;">(link)</span></i></a><span style="font-size: x-large;"> that I used in past), the hardest part was figuring out how to shape a pocket to hold my inhaler. The pouch is approximately 4.5" tall, 10" across at the top, and 3" deep at the bottom.</span></span><br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Since every store requires a "store card" to get sale prices these days, I hand-stitched a hook thingie to the seam on one side. This way, I don't have to do a major search for those all the time.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I'm sure I'll need to shuffle stuff around as I become adjusted to a new handbag. But ain't it cute??? Just 'cause I'm old, don't mean I am an old fuddy-duddy!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Making the mini blocks is just enough to keep me happy as I continue to work on projects around the house. I may have gotten a bit too interested in making the mini blocks to the detriment of other projects. And, while sorting fabrics mini-blocks around, ended up with one "lost." </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdtNCREGwPxcZX77RJQ1IrV_sJSYxKYLZ073Ot52svdNMW0l3jxcmH-CGiAdsu0D_5B38TgNHQFzBVm8NaYYTSbqyyqW1uoRIRU216TlGLGmi4aKq6CW9h6q4Z8CYxbrY2LzOKpqO-9XYO/s1600/1+12+blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1244" data-original-width="1600" height="496" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdtNCREGwPxcZX77RJQ1IrV_sJSYxKYLZ073Ot52svdNMW0l3jxcmH-CGiAdsu0D_5B38TgNHQFzBVm8NaYYTSbqyyqW1uoRIRU216TlGLGmi4aKq6CW9h6q4Z8CYxbrY2LzOKpqO-9XYO/s640/1+12+blocks.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">I had to go back through several piles of sorted fabrics to locate it eventually but not before I made a second one because I thought it was lost forever. I also goofed up with a broken dishes block where I didn't pay close enough attention to the placement of the half-square triangles and ended up with another pinwheel block. But that's okay because I am NOT cutting 180 - 1 1/8th" squares and making </span><a href="http://temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/2017/07/marvelous-mini-monday_24.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: x-large;">five 6-patch blocks</span><i> <span style="font-size: large;">(link)</span></i></a><span style="font-size: x-large;">. Not happening!</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyWsX6NGc2Vth_2qzEKlbUBXAAfr5NdJ9ncsIDmDSC_rZdxitl5TkIO4p892hepRbBFOzEHV0go0tpDpT1qT5-SO8IHRtx_lQK5mlLRyT8Nsyw2xBjyyPhXHPjMwXIp8ZHmCr7f_OCFm1G/s1600/1+hall+table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1133" data-original-width="1600" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyWsX6NGc2Vth_2qzEKlbUBXAAfr5NdJ9ncsIDmDSC_rZdxitl5TkIO4p892hepRbBFOzEHV0go0tpDpT1qT5-SO8IHRtx_lQK5mlLRyT8Nsyw2xBjyyPhXHPjMwXIp8ZHmCr7f_OCFm1G/s400/1+hall+table.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">I want to end up with 16 mini blocks and, after going thru all the historic/1800s fabrics... I will use what I have on hand rather than shopping for sashing fabric. I am making progress on emptying the two tables but it's slow... everything has to be sorted and put away in an organized manner so I can find it again. This table was piled at least a foot high with fabrics, batting, sewing stuff, etc. that needed sorting.... hope to get it finished this weekend.</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">I also finished the hat for a friend in Texas who has just finished with chemo but still has radiation therapy going on. I liked how the flower and leaves turned out... that's one pattern I will definitely use again!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">I have been industrious and can now see the tops of both tables that were piled with miscellaneous sewing-related stuff that needed to be organized and put away. Amazing how much stuff one accumulates... I won't ever need to buy fabric again... </span><i><span style="font-size: large;">*lol*</span></i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><i><br /></i></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilaeD9QFgzg4GPN3aYfuDp_NE3D_Jie_i0d43-W81VKfEC4GGcAEsyKTead_B4NwlsFsuXyoi7dGvH32Eh8rfL9hd64_pGel_pCb6x2twfR6cW3s1-44dAURspgQ4VbpFtMWC0484kEtRU/s1600/2+mini+blocks+w+flash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><img border="0" data-original-height="969" data-original-width="1600" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilaeD9QFgzg4GPN3aYfuDp_NE3D_Jie_i0d43-W81VKfEC4GGcAEsyKTead_B4NwlsFsuXyoi7dGvH32Eh8rfL9hd64_pGel_pCb6x2twfR6cW3s1-44dAURspgQ4VbpFtMWC0484kEtRU/s400/2+mini+blocks+w+flash.jpg" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">The blocks are 4" square and this mini-piecing requires a lot of squaring up be done. I supposed the half-square triangles that finish at 1" would really be too small to do without squaring up and cutting down. It was an adventure to be sure. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">I took two photos... one with flash and one without. It's gray and the light is poor since has been raining here this afternoon... while we all keep watch on H. <br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Blogging friends are the best... especially when they suggest QALs that you may enjoy. Earlier in the summer, </span><a href="http://roguequilter.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Janet O. of Rogue Quilter</span></a><span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;"><i>(link)</i> </span></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">told me about the </span><a href="http://temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/2017/06/marvelous-mini-monday_5.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Temecula Quilt Company's Marvelous Mini Monday QAL</span></a><span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span><i><span style="font-size: large;">(link)</span></i><span style="font-size: x-large;">. The QAL ran for 12 weeks for 12 mini quilt blocks and looked irresistibly charming.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioTUlj88SzU9912gggKV7bk79M1zsicEo8dqo3bXn4DL65rhTH-WgYtbVZC_P7EWsemUvOzVvbhY-sxZX6GVR2nfZUr0swbIdpFwEsn538fnOIBAXfdKFpH7Bpi2Ub6xGwDhizxEF8fKSS/s1600/1+mini+block+a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1543" data-original-width="1600" height="385" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioTUlj88SzU9912gggKV7bk79M1zsicEo8dqo3bXn4DL65rhTH-WgYtbVZC_P7EWsemUvOzVvbhY-sxZX6GVR2nfZUr0swbIdpFwEsn538fnOIBAXfdKFpH7Bpi2Ub6xGwDhizxEF8fKSS/s400/1+mini+block+a.jpg" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I've become somewhat overwhelmed with all the projects that need doing, including organizing all the stuff from my sewing room and getting it back in there so I can find everything. So today, I decided to use the mini blocks as a reinforcer for clearing the dining room table and a folding table of sewing/quilting stuff and getting it back into the sewing room.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I have 2 small baskets of scrap 1800s fabrics from two other quilts so I don't have to purchase anything. The blocks will go together to make a small table topper... hopefully, the "sew a mini block" incentive will help keep me on track with the swing room organizing.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Wish me luck!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">The setup with the ironing pad on top of a shelf </span><i><span style="font-size: large;">(see in background)</span></i><span style="font-size: x-large;"> wasn't working well for pressing rows of blocks so I realized that I would have to get my ironing board out more frequently than I hoped. So, I decided to make one of the little ironing tables that I've seen on-line, made from a wooden TV table.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">I picked up the wood TV tray at Bed, Bath & Beyond using a 20% off coupon so it was reasonable... less than $15 inc tax. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">The hardest part of the project was getting the plastic shrink wrap off the table because the table top was wrapped before the strips were screwed down... so the plastic ran underneath the wood strips. </span><i><span style="font-size: large;">(I used a very old seam ripper to cut close to the wood strips... and it worked pretty well... however, I couldn't get all the wrapping but... who's going to see it???)</span></i></span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;">Despite having several pieces of home dec-weight fabrics to chose from, I went with plain duck/canvas to keep it simple in this small, visually-busy room. There are four layers of <i>Warm & Natural/White</i> batting underneath the canvas. Ms Hartman did not recommend using <i>Insul-Bright</i> for this project and so I didn't... although others have posted about using it.</span><br />

However, I found another one with a <a href="https://www.missouriquiltco.com/land/crafty-gemini-creates/non-slip-foot-pad/tablet/index.html" target="_blank">video tutorial</a> that gave excellent instructions at <a href="http://craftygeminicreates.com/foot-pedal-non-slip-pad/" target="_blank">Crafty Gemini Creates: Sewing Machine Non-slip Foot Pedal Non-slip Pad <i>(link)</i></a>. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">This morning, a new knitting/crochet/quilting friend and I hit the road to High Point, NC to attend the <a href="https://www.highpointquiltguild.com/2017-vender-show" target="_blank">High Point Quilt Guild's annual show</a><a href="https://www.highpointquiltguild.com/2017-vender-show" target="_blank"><i> (link)</i></a>. Since we left at 7:30 a.m., there was very little traffic and we arrived just before the show opened at 9:00. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">It was an overall good day and I got to know my new friend a lot better. Increasing my pool of friends beyond those employed by Moore County Schools is one of my retirement goals!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">To celebrate retirement, I rented a cabin in the NC mountains and invited the three younger grandkids to go on a grandma adventure. </span><i><span style="font-size: large;">(My DD felt "left out" so I invited her as well... and her DH was able to join us for part of the stay.) </span></i><span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I've missed out on so much of their lives because I was still working and the eldest is going off to college in two weeks. So, I was determined that at least some of the grandkids would remember a special time with their grandmother after she retired. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">The cabin was lovely and perfect for multi-generations </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><i>(read: bedrooms on different levels and plenty of bathrooms)</i></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">. The deck was wonderful as was the 20 degree cooler temps.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">Early mornings on the deck with a cuppa tea or coffee were a joy! The rockers were so relaxing...</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">There are lots of things to do in the West Jefferson, NC area... such as hiking to the top of Mt. Jefferson.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9qkSj76l5HEj-2v_-UqdTpXDIzJeb_JXTxJ8QpdoFwHg7dfWAFGGVB9yNukTg4xZ_tZk823W-0r9R0On2qRPpIGf6OcRwIcT6pTUmC7pxG8v988jO44Q3RWSOuDW9ZE09JsqKODe_U3ph/s1600/Emma+Henry+Chloe+on+top+of+Mt+Jefferson%252C+Aug+2017a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="720" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9qkSj76l5HEj-2v_-UqdTpXDIzJeb_JXTxJ8QpdoFwHg7dfWAFGGVB9yNukTg4xZ_tZk823W-0r9R0On2qRPpIGf6OcRwIcT6pTUmC7pxG8v988jO44Q3RWSOuDW9ZE09JsqKODe_U3ph/s640/Emma+Henry+Chloe+on+top+of+Mt+Jefferson%252C+Aug+2017a.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">The gem mining was a much bigger success than I imagined... we had to pry the kids away at closing. After we got back to the cabin, the kids spent time looking up the various gems they found online... </span><i><span style="font-size: large;">"Can we go again tomorrow?"</span></i></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">I don't have photos from tubing on the river but the grandgirl with the GoPro promised to send me some. We had dinner out one night in West Jefferson...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">...however, there was plenty of time to hang out at the cabin.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">And then there were the views...</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-large;">The grandkids are already talking about another grandma adventure to the mountains next summer... to include more gem mining and white-water rafting.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I have to say that adjusting to retirement has been interesting and this past month has definitely had a different feel than "summer vacation" in the past... for example, I don't feel as if I need to rush on projects. Don't get it finished today? That's okay... plenty more time to get it done.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT3siTKf0PGNN8xb4FCkjr1nX17A_8_yxUBdszRWOBELWGbeQYo0MyTmgmGnhp9oywVVyDIVWfNNRMQ4pp891Fkj4KZTZunb8ssSfnfCzrgHrjkZJcftmp-9Nw6JdTMYe07Lnc8f6DRvR_/s1600/1+sewing+room+progress+a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT3siTKf0PGNN8xb4FCkjr1nX17A_8_yxUBdszRWOBELWGbeQYo0MyTmgmGnhp9oywVVyDIVWfNNRMQ4pp891Fkj4KZTZunb8ssSfnfCzrgHrjkZJcftmp-9Nw6JdTMYe07Lnc8f6DRvR_/s400/1+sewing+room+progress+a.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I've been doing a number of little chores around the place such as taking apart and cleaning my vacuum cleaner and mopping the front porch... fun stuff that no one notices but you. However, I have started hoeing out the sewing room, which consists of many steps. I've been offered help but honestly, the hauling stuff out and cleaning is the easiest part. The organizing/putting away will take some time but the hardest part: rearranging sewing furniture in a 10'x10' room with wall-to-wall closet doors. Not many places to put stuff.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04zjjR5bhiODCKTW8mnW19_Am85NUy4XB4CfUhLpL-W-m9Os957tojWEsKRJ8UWrME6Gff7RB3axcEKrXTatSW9MFe-i2IA5I1BdaFRpgJqG_A6VjKXDSn1bZv8y2i6JTuJSDSpq_ERs8/s1600/1+sewing+room+progress+b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04zjjR5bhiODCKTW8mnW19_Am85NUy4XB4CfUhLpL-W-m9Os957tojWEsKRJ8UWrME6Gff7RB3axcEKrXTatSW9MFe-i2IA5I1BdaFRpgJqG_A6VjKXDSn1bZv8y2i6JTuJSDSpq_ERs8/s400/1+sewing+room+progress+b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">It would help if I moved the desk and file cabinet out of the room but I don't know where I'd put it. I like having all my "office stuff" together, and when following an online tutorial, it does help to have my laptop in the same room as my sewing machine.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvkTub5XmPqhM3DBibA3peLfaIoakTyR4cyPq-WrfubL_rNLUHk1CCbJ_EVJn6_Il8PhAnUh5CVTOTHcXpJjciUzkcGEchfz39f-YDYICYocDujRZ7hsjKvrhBur_ZBzTdAkPTxGcK5f8f/s1600/1+sewing+room+progress+c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvkTub5XmPqhM3DBibA3peLfaIoakTyR4cyPq-WrfubL_rNLUHk1CCbJ_EVJn6_Il8PhAnUh5CVTOTHcXpJjciUzkcGEchfz39f-YDYICYocDujRZ7hsjKvrhBur_ZBzTdAkPTxGcK5f8f/s400/1+sewing+room+progress+c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">(Yes, there are holes in the radiator cover... yet another project ahead of me.)</span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Previously, I had my ironing board set up in an L-position with my sewing tables but I swapped that out for a shelf with a portable cutting board-that-reverses-to-a-ironing surface. I'll be able to store the iron on the shelf as well as the serger, which can be moved to the top shelf when needed.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2MazU4qUIDd2pKv-yTWKjEQD_omvWB_O0grz-C03x7qFFFSYiU2SsIjFbvJY4Hp9luW2A5UXHz0ELg1gwDNzkZwRxeGHS15F-DihZRiumHi05ZgmOBmQWZyPSSkptgwZmG0ZVMFTbCasx/s1600/1+sewing+room+progress+d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2MazU4qUIDd2pKv-yTWKjEQD_omvWB_O0grz-C03x7qFFFSYiU2SsIjFbvJY4Hp9luW2A5UXHz0ELg1gwDNzkZwRxeGHS15F-DihZRiumHi05ZgmOBmQWZyPSSkptgwZmG0ZVMFTbCasx/s400/1+sewing+room+progress+d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I've also moved lights around and tried to brighten the dark corners of the room. The moving/cleaning part is the easiest... it's the figuring out where to put stuff that is hard. Several cups of tea were required....</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiunkk1YHcAtL9Xu2XkCWvwNdGsjVTaTNnCiopADYL7g0ocdN3xBIKtet0YpUDKLFhPh3U2C0WqvhO14WmxlG3s6BNHrurdkW_-5xA2KZrnVkndc2T1DncGvp-vciA_69EOVvGAhhTKWTbC/s1600/cuppa+tea.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="828" data-original-width="960" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiunkk1YHcAtL9Xu2XkCWvwNdGsjVTaTNnCiopADYL7g0ocdN3xBIKtet0YpUDKLFhPh3U2C0WqvhO14WmxlG3s6BNHrurdkW_-5xA2KZrnVkndc2T1DncGvp-vciA_69EOVvGAhhTKWTbC/s320/cuppa+tea.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">No estimate on when I get this done but it's not a problem... after all, I'm retired and have all the time I want!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Yes, it finally happened... retirement! There have been times when I didn't think I'd make it but I did.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Tomorrow is the first Monday in June that I don't have to be at work at the crack o' dawn in 11 years. Nice... so this afternoon, I made some </span><a href="http://www.food.com/recipe/red-pepper-hummus-117045" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">red pepper hummus </span><i>(link)</i></a><span style="font-size: large;"> because I'm not pushed to get everything done today...</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtw95DUaO2-c-QONhpbwrgNfC3muFd7UEgZSe0q4DDJ9xe4a6q1RrltDkQWkmnw_oqC7T39dX9tSbbn9x-vodPHdg3vZDXI_AH-H5ZxbLmQlRaowtKT_9_bIhiDcV2XeQCQVmzIfEuiAey/s1600/1+red+pepper+hummus.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1261" data-original-width="1600" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtw95DUaO2-c-QONhpbwrgNfC3muFd7UEgZSe0q4DDJ9xe4a6q1RrltDkQWkmnw_oqC7T39dX9tSbbn9x-vodPHdg3vZDXI_AH-H5ZxbLmQlRaowtKT_9_bIhiDcV2XeQCQVmzIfEuiAey/s400/1+red+pepper+hummus.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">A friend gave me some lovely roses last week for my retirement so, this morning, I recut them and gave them some nice fresh water to drink...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBbUqN6a-afSI-E8sJIrSY-keHGl8yg1hdYtRQbzccXufTpYtVUX5sAu6WUrcPKJw7aV4pHQqyR1IYAazxkw28X2kK2DXnmq6TioIBaB7Q6toDVC7Y3Kim_j-jW5kwrMyu-YlM0BvIa42Z/s1600/1+roses+after+a+week.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBbUqN6a-afSI-E8sJIrSY-keHGl8yg1hdYtRQbzccXufTpYtVUX5sAu6WUrcPKJw7aV4pHQqyR1IYAazxkw28X2kK2DXnmq6TioIBaB7Q6toDVC7Y3Kim_j-jW5kwrMyu-YlM0BvIa42Z/s400/1+roses+after+a+week.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I imagine it's going to take a while to get used to this and I probably won't "feel" retired until school staff start back to work in August.... but I don't mind! I want to savor this being retired...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The end of April, there was a bit of a "heart incident" resulting in a ride to the ER and subsequently being admitted to the hospital. Nothing found but I racked up medical bills over $12K in less than 24 hours.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqbgtMfjqcGVNd6WoL6uK23RFBDg7ewCgJ-QhopJKvlN6_U_GghGuuZFyCphuVWjG3DKJeaRuqqzatGHhX_DKvrbwip5KMVmtGLuprZZ0tN7KZ_AseIqrJirKG7H_kHeiUX9J6qa1OqecY/s1600/1+ambulance.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="275" data-original-width="323" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqbgtMfjqcGVNd6WoL6uK23RFBDg7ewCgJ-QhopJKvlN6_U_GghGuuZFyCphuVWjG3DKJeaRuqqzatGHhX_DKvrbwip5KMVmtGLuprZZ0tN7KZ_AseIqrJirKG7H_kHeiUX9J6qa1OqecY/s200/1+ambulance.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">It was my first </span>(and hopefully last)<span style="font-size: large;"> episode of </span><a href="http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/atrial-fibrillation/home/ovc-20164923" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">atrial fibrillation </span><i>(link)</i></a><span style="font-size: large;"> but, in addition to new meds, I also had a bunch of appointments and medical tests in May </span>(still found nothing)<span style="font-size: large;">... on top of work, getting stuff done related to retirement, and normal life stuff. So things went to heck in a hand basket around the house.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Since last Wednesday </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">(first day of retirement)</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">, I've been organizing paperwork to file away, pitching and tossing stuff that needs to be recycled or discarded, and starting to do some deep cleaning.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKypaHj7KX4aVubzgZebZirS6JvR8ok3BSiItdsurw_7MfpiGcakLSkeCHOKLN_bdqthRx3G-xuOQ2QGelewg3DSI3RUdqTgt9PoJw0v-Nh2lBAUb9eL4BNtbXnx3gJsfAi3BExjioIHmq/s1600/1+reorganize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="194" data-original-width="293" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKypaHj7KX4aVubzgZebZirS6JvR8ok3BSiItdsurw_7MfpiGcakLSkeCHOKLN_bdqthRx3G-xuOQ2QGelewg3DSI3RUdqTgt9PoJw0v-Nh2lBAUb9eL4BNtbXnx3gJsfAi3BExjioIHmq/s400/1+reorganize.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">My "to do" list is <i>l - o - n - g</i> but I'm already making progress. When people ask what I'm going to do in retirement to keep busy.... I just laugh!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">One of the first big projects on my list is to clean out and reorganize my sewing room. It's a disaster right now and I won't be able to start sewing again until reorganization...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Surprisingly, I've gotten involved in local politics related to public school funding (or lack thereof) and I foresee my becoming more and more involved in various issues going forward. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">My nephew-in-law posted this photo of his wife, my niece, the USCG helicopter pilot, after she got home from a long duty day on December 23rd, 2016. It's cold in Alaska in December even if there is a roaring fire...</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">...and this is why I quilt.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I have one more "family quilt" to make... for my youngest nephew who will graduate from college in May. I'm planning to use a Moda Marbles jelly roll in "Warm"...</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">A coworker is expecting her first baby (a girl) and I've been having fun making a couple of things for her. I went "neutral" for the 36" square baby blanket because Jessica hadn't found out yet whether or not it was a boy or a girl... but I chose a non-baby green yarn.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTSz14hMiihIBTx1Pn47i5d0fbY3pDALooGUmTfIu35fe9SLrJr27W__uLldCF2pTDYkyhoeZPuaQyY5M1XhUkmdhguCfSdguJTZCmFt5cfIY76GFR0H4gpU0sLRBkXDnWBB28DkfMwg5l/s1600/1+baby+blanket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="408" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTSz14hMiihIBTx1Pn47i5d0fbY3pDALooGUmTfIu35fe9SLrJr27W__uLldCF2pTDYkyhoeZPuaQyY5M1XhUkmdhguCfSdguJTZCmFt5cfIY76GFR0H4gpU0sLRBkXDnWBB28DkfMwg5l/s640/1+baby+blanket.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The blanket is just one big granny square with a simple border. I found the <a href="http://daisycottagedesigns.net/free-crochet-pattern/free-crochet-patterns-granny-square-baby-blanket/" target="_blank">free pattern here (link)</a>.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Once I found out that Jessica is having a baby girl, I needed to make something girly!</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYSXjYtnD_tQaY-H58HrU9bqoaX9QayyjJXZS4otTRsJu-eFrgGH3vC_BdaE9y-nQu4hw4nnHZ8UpQdPenYQcbg4Vq7cpJiZdNP_kIDFz9CQRF4eEyZ7nIDjUzf6wPEwPKiKhzYSAN7Is8/s1600/baby+caps+blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="412" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYSXjYtnD_tQaY-H58HrU9bqoaX9QayyjJXZS4otTRsJu-eFrgGH3vC_BdaE9y-nQu4hw4nnHZ8UpQdPenYQcbg4Vq7cpJiZdNP_kIDFz9CQRF4eEyZ7nIDjUzf6wPEwPKiKhzYSAN7Is8/s640/baby+caps+blog.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I found another <a href="http://mangotreecrafts.blogspot.ca/2015/02/free-basic-beanie-crochet-pattern-all.html" target="_blank">free pattern for the caps <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">(link)</span></a> but had trouble deciding what size to make since so I made two... one size 0-6 months the other size 6-12 months. This way, the baby will have a hat that fits all winter long! It doesn't look like it in the photos but the leaves are the same color as the baby blanket. (It's overcast today and this was the best photo I could obtain.)</span></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Although it feels like Spring here today and the shawl isn't needed, I am glad to finally put in the last stitches and weave in the ends.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHXqAt40PvLZrlYpbrfvO97EZTm_BfF8P6t-g2SLaXW7LA6his5hv7w8jRSCvFONC3Q5pAQbrqSG_snnFePap6ttNdBSpOaOtUOabsSpHc2JT9U8CmiEgi2PH6Z41eG7HSHR8-r9mqmqYx/s1600/finished+shawl+entire+end.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHXqAt40PvLZrlYpbrfvO97EZTm_BfF8P6t-g2SLaXW7LA6his5hv7w8jRSCvFONC3Q5pAQbrqSG_snnFePap6ttNdBSpOaOtUOabsSpHc2JT9U8CmiEgi2PH6Z41eG7HSHR8-r9mqmqYx/s640/finished+shawl+entire+end.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I debated on whether or not to add the borders because I truly liked the way it ended up prior to the borders... but I think the scalloped section and the two rows of double crochet with a plain single-crochet edging added a more finished look to the shawl. </span></span><br />
